Post Font support being dropped from Flash compiler
Just read on:
http://www.bytearray.org/?p=4789
"Font transcoding has been removed from [Embed] syntax. Fonts should be pre-transcoded and embedded as a SWF, which can be performed using a tool like fontswf or Flash Professional CS6."

So overall the compiler looks awesome (*yay* worker threads) but this is just another shocking block on features that have been removed which indies rely on.

FWIW fontswf is included in the Flex/ASC2 SDK.

Philippe, that is good to know they are including that.
Overall though it feels like less functionality rather than more. There is too much win with the new release (workers!) that I'll likely modify my own layouts (having a resources.as in my project with [embed] commands) to work with the new compiler... unless I've switched over to HaXe or Unity by then. ;)

That's still less bloat and dependencies in the compiler, and faster compilation (font is pre-compiled) so I think it's cool.

As far as haxe is concerned it isn't able to embed a font either ;)

Hi everyone, the swftools is perfect for making a AS3 font (swf) http://www.swftools.org/ For using in library, pack in SWC (Embed or RSL possibilities and present in AutoCompletion).

It's better solution for runtime speed, otherwise, you can even be a AS3 script that loads and converted TTF. But hey .. :|

Another possibility is embed a tool in FD4 with a pre build command.. (like [Embed Font..] or other).. just an idea

If Flex SDK's fontswf works well we could add a "Compile to SWF" context-menu item to TTF/OTF files. It's not like you need to compile fonts all the time...

If swftools works better we can look into including font2swf.exe (800Kb) in FD tools instead.
