I really like the way FlashDevelop helps you on as3 programming
I'm thinking in trying to add better support for javascript, possibly reaching the as3 level.

I'd like to know what's been done on this, and general guidelines.

My experience with this type of project is a pascal interpreter made in C for a compilers class, is this related?

We didn't start working on that - it's a tricky topic because FD completion model needs a big update (to support imbricated function declarations) and also because the static analysis work needed to infer types in Javascript code is a very complex task.
